Causes of menstrual pains and natural ways to treat it
Menstruation as
we all know is a monthly tradition exhibited by every woman except those who
have reached their menopausal age (usually between the ages of 45-50years). But
now a days, due to genetically modified foods, spices and other additives we use
in our food preparations, women stop menstruating in their late 30s.
What is menstruation?
Menstruation is a
monthly bleeding that occurs in women. This bleeding occurs when the lining of
the womb (uterus) is shed off as a result of un-fertilization of the eggs being
released by the female ovaries. Ovulation (the release of the eggs from the
ovaries) occurs every month in the life of women. These eggs are been placed in
the fallopian tubes, which bring about the development of the uterine linings. If the eggs
are fertilized by sperm cells, you will become pregnant and if they are not
fertilized, the lining will be shed off as blood. These bloods generally take three
to six days, sometimes seven days because it varies in every woman.
Importance of menstruation
- Women menstruate in other to prepare the body for pregnancy
- Menstruation helps women to know whether they are fertile or not
- Menstruation helps women to know whether their hormones are balance or not
- Menstruation helps women to flush out clean their female sex organ from any sensitive harmful microbes.
What cause menstrual pains?
Prostaglandins
are responsible for almost all menstrual pains, now estrogen is a female
hormone which helps women to build strong bones and also help in the thickening
and growing of the womb. Now when it’s time for the eggs to be fertilized and
there are no sperm cells available to do that, the uterus contracts to expel its
lining. The expelling of the lining brings about the release of a hormone-like
substance which is the prostaglandins. This prostaglandin brings about the pain
women experience called menstrual pains.
Other causes might be as a result of medical conditions such as
- Sexually transmitted diseases
- Pelvic inflammation diseases
- Fibroids and
- A condition called adenomyosis where the uterine lining grows into the muscular walls of the womb. And other medical conditions
Weakness
Nausea
Leg pains
Diarrhea
Vomiting and
others
